Davis-Waldorf Performing Arts Series

2020-2021 SEASON

for the 2020-21 academic year, usao’s davis-waldorf performing arts series continues in an innovative digital format entitled “inter’act.” world-class artists collaborate with our technical staff to bring you personalized live concerts and exclusive participatory “virtual residencies.”  this series provides subscribers with the rare opportunity to enjoy intimate, interactive performances from their own homes, and to play a part in live master-classes and post-show question and answer sessions.

all performances will be free, but you must be a subscriber to receive your meeting invitations and passcodes via email.  workshops cost $25 per participant with limited “seating” to allow for the best experience possible.

all subscribers must have an active email address, access to zoom.us or the zoom app, and a stable internet connection for the best experience of these live online meetings.

沙巴体育正规网址we kick off the series with a “living room concert” with this oklahoma city-based guitar virtuoso. watch and listen live as he performs pieces from his extensive repertoire and takes requests from our audience. throughout the evening, cruz will also lead a masterclass-style discussion of technical aspects of solo guitar performance and reflect on the rising prominence of fingerstyle guitar.

PUSH stunned and delighted audiences with the visual spectacle of DRACULA as part of the 19th沙巴体育正规网址 season of DWPAS. Artistic directors Darren and Heather Stevenson will give audiences an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at new pieces in development with the company and how their creative process has adapted in quarantine. This “community conversation” will be live and allow for audience questions and comments.

in a separate “lunch-hour workshop” for community members, push company members will coach exercises for devising and presenting physical theatre that will benefit performers, instructors, and anyone anxious to become more expressive on stage.

Students and Alumni of the theatre arts program will present their fall performance in Live, Online Video on one night only. DWPAS audiences are invited to experience the Oklahoma premiere of this new play, a contemporary sequel to Othello, that examines the enduring legacy of prejudice and trauma in a world where Shakespeare’s world crosses with our own. The cast and crew will hold a behind-the-scenes conversation with the audience after the performance, hosted by guest dramaturg, USAO alumna Cynthia Cunningham, M.F.A.

award-winning composer and pianist daniel kelly brilliantly reinterprets texts from shakespeare’s most beloved plays as lyrics for original jazz songs featuring nicole zuraitis’ powerhouse vocals. the audience will not only enjoy a live, concert performance but will engage with the artists in real-time to collaborate on work!

This multi-award-winning trio will round out our “alternative” series, introducing audiences to the group’s distinctive and fiery fusion of musical styles that reach from the jazz of the Hot Club de France to the deepest blues of the Mississippi Delta to the heartfelt folk scenes across every-town America. This exclusive online concert is a preview of their spectacular live performance that will be featured in the DWPAS 20th anniversary season.
